Welcome to our 4th/ 5th grade class. I am very excited about this school year. This year will be filled with many different activities that will challenge each student’s skills and talents. One of my motto is “Every child can learn.” My prayer “Lord, give me the wisdom and guidance to enable the learning process.

Students will participate in various activities which will include but not be limited to: Chorus, Art, PE, and library. In addition, students will participate in Chapel services on Wednesday’s at 9:00 am. Girls are expected to wear dresses or skirts only. Skorts are not allowed. Parents are welcomed to attend these inspirational services.
This year students will bring their own lunches or purchase food from concession when available. A schedule of concession will be announced. Students may bring snacks from home or purchase them from the snack machine. The costs of snacks are from $.50 to $1.00. Students will not be allowed to eat snacks in class.
*Please notify me in advance of any birthday party plans you would like to schedule during the school day.
Homework will be given Monday thru Thursday. However, light reading and studying spelling list is recommended over the weekend to improve study habits. Have your child bring a stenographers notepad to school to write homework assignments in. Students are expected to complete homework assignments independently.

Each child will participate in the Book it reading program. For every 14 books they read, they will receive a pizza certificate. The form must be filled out in order to receive the reward.
Grading Policy will be calculated as follows: Quizzes 33 1/3 %; Tests / Projects/ Book reports 33 1/3% and Exams 33 1/3 % for all subjects.
The classroom disciplinary policy is: Step 1- Warning; Step 2- Time out from group activity and writing assignment; Step 3- No Recess with writing assignment and Step 4- Parent note home/ Conference.
Disrespectful behavior of any kind towards any adult will not be tolerated. Your child will lose recess for three and/or be reported to the office. Moreover, name calling will not be permitted. Any student who calls a child out of their name will have to complete a 1 ½ page report on the name they called the student. Participation in group activity and recess will not be allowed until paper has been turned in.
Students will be rewarded for good behavior with free time, a free homework pass for one subject or a treat from the teacher.
This year our class will participate in scholastic news. It is a newspaper that comes to the school with articles about current issues that are important in our world today. There are also activities that help promote reading and map skills. The cost is only $5.00 per student. We would like to start with this right away.
I am looking forward to working with your child this school year. Please make note that as the year progresses you may be asked to donate items and participate in fundraisers. All of these requests are made to help your child be the best that he/she can be. Let’s work together in achieving our goal in educating children to soar high.
